I have often wondered what people really mean when they are making a search on a search engine using the word taxi in some particular search phrases.
For example with search phrases such as “taxi from Bologna airport to Florence“, “taxi from Pisa to Florence“, “taxi from Florence to Bologna” or “taxi from Florence to Pisa airport” you will get a multitude of results and of the most variegate nature. Some will be blogs or information portals that just write about the different ways in which you can get from Bologna to Florence or from Florence to Pisa. Some will be from some large worldwide providers of private transportation. Many will be from local car and chauffeur service providers, and a few from not so local ones. And finally you might also be able to find the local taxi service providers.
I suppose that most people will enter search phrases such as the ones mentioned above ahead of the time when they will be needing the taxi service. What would be the reason for such searches? For example if you were due to land in Bologna in a couple of days and needed a taxi to Florence would you enter the phrase “taxi from Bologna airport to Florence” to check if there is a taxi service operating at Bologna airport? I think it is obvious to anyone that there will be a taxi service and as you walk out of the terminal building you will either see them sitting there waiting for you or you will have to join a line and wait for your turn. Maybe you entered such a phrase to check what the cost would be, but when you are there, in front of such a large variety of results, will you look only for the local taxi service or will you also check out the prices offered by the large private transfers portals and the local limousine and chauffeur services?
Another thing I would like to know is if people seeing the words “limousine” or “chauffeur” in the results will perceive them as being too expensive and skip over those results. As I work in a car service company I can tell everyone concerned about the costs that in most cases the word “limousine” is not used for stretch-limos only but for luxury sedans and minivans. In some cases, especially transfers of medium and long distances hiring a luxury sedan or minivan with a professional English-speaking driver can be cheaper than a taxi. Taxis are cheaper for short rides.
If you are reading this article and you might have used. or thought of using, the word “taxi” in a search phrase such as “taxi from Bologna airport to Florence” or “taxi from ….. to …..” please let me understand better the thought process of people entering such searches by answering the following simple poll.
